Rigondeaux Wins WBO Super Bantamweight Championship
Published at(NEW YORK) — WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0) captured the WBO super bantamweight title with a unanimously decision over Nonito Donaire (31-2) at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Saturday night.
The three judges scored the fight 114-113, 115-112 and 116-111 in favor of Rigondeaux, handing Donaire his first loss in 30 fights since 2001.
Donaire sent Rigondeaux to the canvas twice in the 10th round, the first knockdown referee Benjy Esteves ruled it a slip. Rigonandeaux connected with 129 of 396 punches while Donaire landed only 82 of 352 punches.
