Sales of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” Soar After Fenway Performance
Published at(NEW YORK) — When the Boston Red Sox on Saturday played their first home game since last week’s bombings in the city, Neil Diamond was on hand to sing his Fenway Park staple, “Sweet Caroline.”
Since Diamond’s surprise performance to honor the victims of the bombing, sales of the song jumped nearly 600 percent.
For more than a decade, the Red Sox have played Neil’s classic during the middle of the eighth inning of each home game. It always elicits a massive sing-along from the crowd.
Diamond says he will donate all the royalties from the song to help the victims of the bombing and plans on writing a new song about the events.
