Kent Hendrix, 47, said he was taking a shower on Tuesday morning when his son alerted him to a woman screaming for help just outside of their home. Hendrix was quick to act.

“Jumped out. Put some clothes on. Grabbed my sword,” Hendrix explained.

When the would-be mugger saw the barefoot Hendrix barreling down on him wielding a 29-in carbon steel samurai sword, he quickly took off running, and Hendrix chased after him.

The mugger managed to get to his car, dropping his ChapStick in the process. Hendrix picked it up and yelled out to the mugger as he drove away.

“Ha! I have your DNA! And I’ve got your license plate! You are so done!” Hendrix recalled.

Hendrix’s heroic actions seemed to have made a mark, as the mugger, 37-year-old Grant Eggersten, turned himself into police an hour later.

Hendrix, a 4th degree black belt, says he keeps the sword by his bed for self defense. He had never had to use it before saving chasing away the mugger.
