GETTY B 102511 WallStreetStock? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1366406709138Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Stocks rose slightly as a turbulent week on Wall Street came to a close.

The Dow Jones Industrial Friday closed up 10 points, 0.07 percent, to end the session at 14,547.51. The blue chips index had spent much of Friday’s trading in the red. The Dow had turned lower after IBM’s quarterly earnings announcement on Friday fell short of forecasts for the first time since 2005.

The Nasdaq Composite added 40 points, or 1.25 percent, closing at 3,206.06. The S&P jumped 14 points, or 0.9 percent, to 1,555.25.

Unemployment rates are down in 26 states even though job growth has slowed. This is mainly because most people who are out of work stopped looking for jobs. Rates rose in seven states last month and were unchanged in 17. Nevada has the highest jobless rate, 9.7 percent. North Dakota has the lowest, at 3.3 percent.
