World Leaders React to Boston Marathon Explosions

John Tlumacki/The Boston Globe via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Leaders from around the world are reacting to the twin explosions that rocked the Boston Marathon on Monday, leaving three people dead and at least 176 others injured.
Here’s a sample of what some of them had to say:
Afghan President Hamid Karzai (via statement): “Having suffered from terrorist attacks and civilian casualties for years, our people feel better the pain and suffering arising from such incidents.” The statement added that Karzai offered his condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and the people of the U.S.
Pakistan Government (via statement): “The Government and people of Pakistan are deeply shocked and saddened at the cowardly terrorist attacks in the city of Boston, Massachusetts USA during the Boston Marathon. This despicable act has resulted in loss of precious human lives including children. Our condolences and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen (via statement): “I am deeply shocked by the explosions at the Boston marathon. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who were killed, and I wish a full recovery to those who were injured. My thoughts are with the people of Boston and all of the United States.”
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon (via statement): “I condemn this senseless violence, which is all the more appalling for taking place at an event renowned for bringing people together from around the world in a spirit of sportsmanship and harmony. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and to wish those wounded a speedy recovery.”
British Prime Minister David Cameron (via Twitter): “The scenes from Boston are shocking and horrific – my thoughts are with all those who have been affected.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin (via statement): “Vladimir Putin strongly condemned this barbaric crime and expressed his belief that the fight against terrorism requires the coordination of the global community’s efforts. The President of Russia stressed that the Russian Federation will be ready, if necessary, to assist in the US authorities’ investigation.”
British Foreign Secretary William Hague (via Twitter): “Appalled by news of explosion at Boston marathon. My thoughts are with everyone affected by it and all those waiting for news.”
