A new Quinnipiac poll suggests that while Americans still support the efforts to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals and the mentally disturbed, they contend his efforts have fallen far short of what they expected.

In fact, 52 percent disapprove of how Obama is handling gun policy with just 41 percent who approve of what he’s done to this point.

Part of the problem, according to the Quinnipiac survey, is that Democrats are losing faith in his attempts at restricting assault rifles and high capacity magazines as well as instituting universal background checks on gun purchases.

While eight percent of Democrats disapprove of the president’s overall job performance, a whopping 23 percent don’t like the way he’s handled the gun issue.

The gender gap is also hurting Obama with 45 percent of women opposing his efforts to curb violence, compared to six out ten men who don’t like it.
