The actress, who was arrested last month in Atlanta along with her husband, was photographed Saturday at Los Angeles International Airport sporting what appeared to be a City of Atlanta Police Department hat.  However, a rep for the Atlanta Police Department says the hat is a fake.

A senior officer with the department’s Public Affairs Unit tells Us Weekly that the APD did not send Witherspoon the hat.

The rep adds, “I do not know where the hat came from.  It looks like someone just took one of our patches — I’m not sure where she got one — and sewed or glued it onto a black hat.”

Nevertheless, an Us Weekly source says the Oscar winner has “reached out to the Atlanta PD a few times, and she personally apologized to the officer who she interacted with.”

Witherspoon was fined last week after pleading no contest to physical obstruction of another person in connection with her April 19 arrest.  Police had said Witherspoon was disruptive as her husband, agent Jim Toth, was being arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Toth pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to community service, among other things.
