The Bucs originally drafted Barber out Virginia in the third round of the 1997 NFL draft. In 241 games, he compiled 1,260 tackles along with 28 sacks and 47 interceptions.

“I love football,” said Barber. “I will always love football but football is just what I did. It’s not who I am and I am ready to move on.”

The 38-year-old Barber leaves an impressive legacy behind with the Buccaneers, leading the team in games started, interceptions, interception for return yards, non-offensive touchdowns and knocked down passes.

He retires having captured the Vince Lombardi trophy in Super Bowl XXXVII.
