King remarked at the Tuesday-night concert, “The greatest joy for me is to hear someone interpret my song.”  She performed herself, too, entertaining those in attendance with “Now and Forever” and “You’ve Got a Friend.”

King also acknowledged the victims of the Oklahoma tornado, saying she would “keep them in our prayers.”

On Wednesday night, President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will salute King as part of the latest edition of the “In Performance at the White House” series.  King, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Gloria Estefan and Trisha Yearwood are among the artists who will perform.

The concert will be streamed live on WhiteHouse.gov/Live beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
