Alex Jackson, 29, was taken into custody on Thursday and will face murder charges, according to authorities, who say he was responsible for allowing his pack of dogs to go after Pamela Devitt of Littlerock, Calif., who was taking a walk on May 9 when she was attacked.

A witness said he spotted the dogs assaulting Devitt but by the time police arrived to help, the woman was dead and the dogs had run off.

According to L.A. County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, the victim was literally ripped to pieces and her remains dragged more than 50 yards.  Her death was attributed to loss of blood and trauma.

It’s believed the prosecutor is seeking the death penalty against Jackson because his pit bulls were allegedly involved in three other incidents of people being attacked, including one last January when police said Jackson threw a rock at a person on a horse after his dogs started biting the animal.

If convicted in Devitt’s death, Jackson faces a maximum of life in prison.
