Obama to Nominate New Chairman of FCC on Wednesday
Published at(WASHINGTON) — President Obama on Wednesday will announce his nominee to chair the Federal Communications Commission, an administration official tells ABC News.
The president is expected to nominate Tom Wheeler, a venture capitalist who over the past 30-plus years has separately served as a top industry lobbyist for two key FCC constituencies: wireless phone providers and cable TV companies.
If confirmed as head of the FCC, Wheeler will take the helm of an agency that’s focused keenly on expanding wireless broadband under outgoing chairman Julius Genachowski.
