Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The markets weren’t able to continue their winning ways Thursday, with the major U.S. indices closing lower.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 22.50 points, at 15,082.62. The Nasdaq Composite gave up 4.10 points, closing at 3,409.17, despite hitting an all-time high earlier in the session. The S&P 500 lost 6.02 points to close at 1,626.67.

First-time jobless claims hit a five-year low last week. Economists say it’s a sign that layoffs are slowing while more companies are hiring.

Shares of online discount provider Groupon rose 11.45 percent Thursday after reporting first-quarter revenue that surpassed expectations.
