Weekly Jobless Claims Drop to Five-Year Low

Spencer Platt/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims continued to fall last week, bringing the total down to a five-year low, the Labor Department reported Thursday morning.

For the week ending May 4, the number of people filing for benefits decreased by 4,000 to 323,000 — the lowest level since January 2008.  The previous week, claims stood at 327,000.

The four-week average also went down, dropping by 6,250 to 336,750.
