(NEW YORK) — The Detroit Lions agreed to a one-year contract with defensive lineman Israel Idonije on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Idonije spent the last nine seasons with the Chicago Bears. During that time he compiled 272 tackles, 28.5 sacks and six forced fumbles.
The past three seasons have been especially productive for Idonije. He had eight sacks in 2010, five in 2011 and 7.5 last season.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pound Idonije joins a Lions defensive line that features two former first-round draft picks and this year’s No. 5 overall pick, Ezekeil Ansah.
Idonije will be able to provide versatility to the Lions defensive line. He played 514 snaps at defensive end and 212 snaps at tackle last season for the Bears.
