Vigneault was let go by the Canucks in May.

Vigneault, 52, finished 313-170-57 in his seven seasons in Vancouver. He also led the Canucks to six division titles, two Presidents’ Trophy titles and a trip to the 2011 Stanley Cup finals.

“Honored and privileged I feel at this moment,” Vigneault said on Friday.  “I’m coming here to win and there’s no doubt in my mind that this organization is committed to winning the Stanley Cup.”

New York has not hoisted a Stanley Cup since 1994.

“It’s real clear to me that there’s no better place to win the Stanley Cup than here in New York,” Vigneault said.  “Real excited about this challenge and this opportunity and I just want to get started.”
