The list ranks the stars based on estimated earnings over the past 12 months, as well as how marketable they are and how often they’re mentioned in print, TV and social media.

Winfrey earned an estimated $77 million over the past year, a total that is actually less than that of the two stars that follow her on the list, Lady Gaga and Steven Spielberg.

But as Forbes staff writer Meghan Casserly explains, “She scores the highest for marketability. She’s absolutely up there and people trust that brand.”

The former daytime TV queen had been number one as recently as 2010, before holding down the runner-up spot the subsequent two years.

Beyoncé and Madonna round out the top five in the 2013 “Celebrity 100” rankings.

Jennifer Lopez, who was number one last year, fell to 12th.

The highest-ranking newcomers to the list are Hugh Jackman, at number 11, and Channing Tatum, at number 23.  Among the notable celebs who dropped off the list this year: Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Reese Witherspoon.
