Philanthropist Brooke Astor’s Son, 89, Headed to Jail
Published at(NEW YORK) — The elderly son of philanthropist Brooke Astor is headed to jail.
At 89, Anthony Marshall is one of this state’s oldest inmates. He headed to prison to begin serving his one- to three-year prison sentence for looting his mother’s estate.
Marshall is a World War II veteran and former U.S. ambassador, but he exploited his mother Brooke Astor’s Alzheimer’s disease to change her will and plunder millions from her fortune.
The Manhattan district attorney said Marshall’s prosecution raised public awareness of what he called the silent epidemic of elder abuse.
Astor died in 2007 at the age of 105.
