Nadal is now the only man with eight titles at one Grand Slam.
The victory comes after Nadal defeated No. 1 seeded Novak Djokovic on Friday in five grueling sets.
Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt was also in attendance to witness the history.
Serena Williams became the oldest woman to win a major crown since Martina Navratilova after beating Maria Sharapova in two sets on Saturday.
