The 57-year-old Noel has coached the previous two seasons in Winnipeg. Last season, he led the Jets to a 24-21-3 record, finishing just four points behind the New York Islanders for the final playoff spot.

Before heading to Winnipeg, Noel was an assistant coach for three seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets. During his third season in Columbus, Noel became the interim head coach after head coach Ken Hitchcock was fired. Noel coached the final 24 games of the season posting a 10-8-6 record.

The Jets, who were previously the Atlanta Thrashers, haven’t made the playoffs since the 2006-07 season.
