At Least 35 People Die in Train Crash in Spain
Published at(GALICIA, Spain) — At least 35 people were killed and dozens were injured after a train derailed in north-western Spain on Wednesday, the BBC reports. Some 218 people were on board and some passengers may still be trapped.
All 13 carriages derailed as the train was traveling between Madrid and Ferrol along the Galician coast.
Images from the accident show people lying on the ground and emergency crews searching the area. The BBC reports that one witness heard an explosion before a carriage overturned.
According to the BBC, analysts say this is Spain’s worst train accident in four decades.
