The 36-year-old Stevens spent six seasons roaming the sidelines as the Bulldogs head coach, where he compiled a record of 166-49, including a 12-5 mark in the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. Butler has appeared in the national championship game twice under Stevens.

“Our family is thrilled for the opportunity given to us by the leadership of the Boston Celtics, but it is emotional to leave a place that we have called home for the past 13 years,” said Stevens in a statement.

Stevens will be introduced as the Celtics new head coach at the team’s training center Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern.
