Bruins Lock Up Rask for Eight Years
Published at(BOSTON) — Tuukka Rask gambled and now he’s $56 million richer.
The Boston Bruins signed goalie Tuukka Rask to a eight-year contract worth $56 million Wednesday.
Rask had an opportunity to sign a long term deal last summer but chose to sign a one-year contract worth $3.5 million betting on himself to have a good season.
Rask did more than that.
He led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Final by putting up a .940 save percentage, three shutouts and a 1.88 goals-against average in the 2013 postseason.
Rask was good during the regular season as well compiling a 19-10-5 record to go along with a .929 save percentage and a 2.44 GAA.
The 26-year-old Rask is now tied with Nashville’s Pekka Rinne as the highest-paid goalie in the NHL.
