Hostageware Targets Local Web Users

In the wake of shocking revelations about government surveillance programs, scammers are using pop-ups claiming to be from the FBI that accuse online surfers of criminal activity. Experts say that it’s a form of hostage ware, since the scammers ask victims to pay a fine to avoid going to jail. Anyone who may be a victim is urged to turn off their computer, bring it to a technician, and contact the Better Business Bureau.
