Ramirez, 41, served as the designated hitter in his debut and is excited about the possibility to contribute at the big league level.

“I can do it,” Ramirez said. “I’ve been thinking about this day almost for a week. I’m just like a little kid going back and playing the game that I love.”

In his first at-bat, Ramirez knocked an opposite-field single to begin the bottom of the second inning. He was serenaded with chants of “Manny, Manny” throughout the night by the Round Rock faithful.

“It was awesome,” Ramirez said. “When you get all the fans cheering for you and you’re just trying to get a good at-bat.”

The Express won the game, 4-0, in front of 8,910 fans at Dell Diamond.

Ramirez, who parted ways with EDA Rhinos of Taiwan after 49 games, has no timetable for when he could be called up to the Rangers. His last appearance in major league baseball was in 2011 with the Tampa Bay Rays.
