Molina, who missed the Cardinals’ last two games, said he had been dealing with pain in his knee for the past month but it hurt even more on Friday, prompting the Cards to send the catcher for tests.

“Good news,” Cardinals skipper Mike Matheny said. “It’s definitely something that’s worrisome when he’s such a valuable part of our team. But it’s best to get it looked at and know what you’re dealing with.”

Molina, the National League leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game, is leading the NL in hitting with a .346 average. Molina also has six home runs and 45 RBIs for the season.
