MTV to Release VMA Nominations via Instagram, Vine

Imeh Akpanudosen/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — MTV says it will announce this year’s Video Music Awards’ nominations for Video of the Year and other categories on Wednesday via two social networks, Instagram and Vine.
Mashable reports MTV will begin announcing nominations at 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday, then each hour following, the music network will release nominees in other categories yet to be announced. Fans can follow the nominations announcements using the hashtag, #RoadToTheVMAs.
Along with stepping up their social media, there are other changes to the VMAs this year. The awards are heading to Brooklyn for the first time ever, airing live from the Barclays Center.
The MTV Video Music Awards’ Moonman is also getting a makeover. The new statuette was redesigned by artist KAWS exclusively for the show’s debut in Brooklyn, though it will only be presented at this year’s ceremony.
KAWS’ Moonman has “a gun-metal finish, a skull-and-crossbones head with long ears and cartoonish gloves, inspired by Mickey Mouse’s,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the VMAs. They’re set to air live on Sunday, Aug. 25.
