The New York Post reports that the longtime daytime talk show host will lead a panel discussion around the leading sports topics of the day.  Crowd Goes Wild will broadcast from New York City, and will air weekdays at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

“We’ve got a nice little panel of people together, a lot of friends,” Philbin told the newspaper.  “And if a celebrity like George Clooney comes to town with a movie, we’ll play clips from his movie — but we’ll also talk to George, who grew up in Cincinnati, about his sports roots, like, if he’s still a big Reds fan.”

Philbin initially revealed his upcoming TV plans on ABC’s The View in March, where the iconic 80-year-old TV personality was there to welcome Barbara Walters back on the show after her bout with chickenpox and a concussion.

“Fox is starting a sports channel.  Everybody is starting a sports channel now, you know, where there’s nothing but 24 hours of sports,” Philbin said at the time.  “Regis is going to have a show on that.”

The other panelists for Philbin’s new show haven’t been revealed yet, but one is an “ex-NFL player,” he said.

Philbin previously hosted ABC’s Live! with Regis and Kelly since 1983, when it launched as a local New York City program under a different title.  He shared hosting duties with Kathie Lee Gifford for 15 years before Kelly Ripa replaced her in 2001.  Philbin left the show in November 2011.
