The 34-year-old Willingham was scratched before last night’s game against the New York Yankees after feeling discomfort in his knee. In 70 games this season, Willingham is batting .224 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 246 at-bats.

To fill Willingham’s spot on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled outfielder Aaron Hicks from Triple-A Rochester and activated him from the 15-day disabled list. Hicks missed 19 games due to a hamstring strain.
