Matt Holliday drove home Matt Carpenter in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Cardinals a 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“We did a good job of bouncing back,” said Holliday.  “Winning this game could be very important for us.”

Carpenter had four hits for the Cardinals, who now sit just two games back of the Pirates in the NL Central.

“Anytime having a walk-off win, it’s a big deal,” manager Mike Matheny said. “Jumping on it again it today is just the resiliency of this club.

Bryan Morris (5-6) took the loss for Pittsburgh after giving up the game-winning hit to Holliday.
