More Homes Evacuated as Idaho Wildfire Spreads
Published at(SUN VALLEY, Idaho) — Sheriff’s deputies expanded evacuation orders to 1,600 homes as a wildfire continues to threaten the Sun Valley, Idaho area.
The fire is only 6 percent contained. According to the Idaho Statesman, the blaze has burned 64,236 acres.
Almost 700 firefighters have been sent to the Ketchum and Sun Valley area, home of the popular Sun Valley Resort.
Officials said the fire was spurred by strong, gusty winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation, the Idaho Statesman reports.
Sun Valley has a population of 1,400 people. The neighboring town Ketchum has a population of 2,700, the Idaho Statesman reports.
