Indiana University Freshman Dies After Accident at Party

Rachael Fiege, 19, was taken off life support and pronounced dead on Saturday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, the Indianapolis Star reports.

The Zionsville, Ind. native was at a party at an off-campus house in Bloomington, Ind. It is believed she fell down a flight of stairs between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.

According to the Indianapolis Star, other students did not realize the severity of the victim’s injuries. The next morning, they realized Fiege was not breathing and called for help.

The University police said they believe Fiege suffered a head injury.

Officials do not yet know if alcohol was involved in Fiege’s death, the Indianapolis Star reports.

University police are investigating the cause of the accident.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Fiege was scheduled to begin her first college classes Monday. She had planned to study pre-nursing.
