Max Scherzer Cruises to 19th Win of Season
Published at(NEW YORK) — Max Scherzer put forth yet another dominant effort on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 3-0 win over the New York Mets.
With the win, Scherzer (19-1) became the first 19-game winner in the MLB this season. He struck out 11 batters while only walking four. He now joins Rube Marquard in 1912 and Roger Clemens in 2001 as the only major league pitchers to win 19 of their first 20 decisions in a season.
Scherzer added an RBI double in the second inning for good measure. Andy Dirks had three hits off Mets hurler Matt Harvey, who fell to 9-5 with the loss.
Harvey and Scherzer last squared off in July at the All-Star Game.
