Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(COLUMBIA, South Carolina) — It took longer than expected but sixth-ranked South Carolina kicked off its 2013 College Football season with a dominating 27-10 win over North Carolina Thursday.
The Gamecocks raced out to a 27-10 lead before the game was delayed for almost two hours with 8:20 left in the fourth quarter due to lightning. When play resumed, South Carolina (1-0) held the Tar Heels (0-1) scoreless on two drives to secure the victory.
South Carolina started off the game on fire scoring on their first three drives of the game. That all started 1:19 into the game when Connor Shaw connected with Shaq Roland for a 65-yard touchdown.
South Carolina sophomore Mike Davis rushed for 115 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Gamecocks star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney had three tackles while helping South Carolina hold the Tar Heels to their lowest point total under head coach Larry Fedora
Next up for the Gamecocks, a trip to Athens, Georgia to take on the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.
