Roy Halladay Wins His First Start Since Returning From the DL

Dilip Vishwanat/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA) — It had been over three months since Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Roy Halladay wnet on the disabled list, but he looked closer to his old self on Sunday.
Halladay pitched 6.0 innings and gave up just two earned runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and picked up just his third win of the season, the 202nd of his career.
On May 5, Halladay underwent shoulder surgery to help fix an issue he’d been dealing with for some time. Halladay’s ERA was 8.65 entering Sunday.
“Each time out I’m progressing back to where I was,” Halladay said. “My arm slot and movement are back to where they used to be. I can be more consistent with location and, in talking to doctors, velocity is going to be the last thing to come.”
How Halladay pitches the remainder of the season has big implications for both he and the Phillies. The 36-year old Halladay is a free agent at end of the year, and has no plans on walking away from baseball.
At the plate, rookie third baseman Cody Asche went 2-4 and drove in two runs while John Mayberry Jr. hit his tenth home run of the season.
