Six Killed in Volcano Eruption in Indonesia

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(PALUE, Indonesia) — Four adults and two children were killed in a volcanic eruption in Indonesia on Saturday.
Mount Rokatenda, on the tiny island of Palue, spewed rocks and hot ash into the air, hitting six people on a nearby beach, the BBC reported.
The eruption lasted for nearly four hours, according to a spokesman from Indonesia’s volcanology agency.
Officials say hundreds of people had been evacuated since the volcano began rumbling last year. But many residents were used to the island’s volcanic activity and ignored the evacuation order.
Palue has a population of about 10,000 people, according to the BBC.
