Taliban Militants Kill 12 Government Workers in Afghanistan
Published at(GULRAN, Afghanistan) — Taliban militants have killed 12 civilians in Afghanistan on Tuesday, six of whom were working on government projects.
According to BBC News, the bodies of the six contractors were found in the Herat province with fatal gunshot wounds after apparent attempts to negotiate their release failed. Six separate civilians were killed in the Paktia province to the east.
The number of attacks on government contractors has been on the rise as withdrawal of NATO troops in 2014 nears.
The six contractors killed in Herat were involved in a project run by the National Solidarity Programme, which is run by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, according to BBC News. The organization is funded largely by the World Bank.
The Taliban have not yet made public comments on either of the attacks.
