AJ McCarron threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns as top-ranked Alabama (2-0, 1-0 SEC) edged No. 6 Texas A&M 49-42 in thrilling fashion on Saturday afternoon.

Texas A&M (2-1, 0-1) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead.  Alabama answered with 35-staight points to take the lead for good.

“I’m so proud of our players for the resiliency they showed getting behind 14-0,” Tide coach Nick Saban said. “Just slowly and methodically coming back in the game and building up the lead.”

Manziel passed for a career-high 464 yards and five touchdowns, but his two interceptions proved to be costly.  Vinnie Sunseri returned one 73-yards for a score in the third quarter.

“This wasn’t the Super Bowl,” Manziel said. “Alabama lost a game last year and still went on to win the national championship. Our season isn’t over.”

Mike Evans caught seven passes for a game-high 279 yards and a touchdown.
