A lot has changed since Hall aired the first incarnation of his program, from 1989 to 1994.  For starters, there are many more shows from which viewers can choose.  Hall promises he won’t change his approach in order to lure in new fans.

Hall tells ABC News Radio, “People are going to choose the guy they like and the way he does things and the way he interviews, and I don’t think there’s anything you can do to battle the other guys.  You do what you do the best you can, and people decide whether they want to go to bed with you that night.  It’s kind of like a club.”

One difference between Hall’s show and that of many other late-night hosts is that he won’t interview his guests from behind a desk.

He recalls, “I was a class clown.  I was always in the principal’s office when I was a student.  And a desk reminds me of the principal’s office.  You know, it’s not casual and fun.”

Hall’s first guest will be actor Chris Tucker.
