Alex Smith threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns to help the Chiefs become the second team in NFL history to win two or fewer games one season, then start the next year 4-0.

Dexter McCluster provided the Chiefs with the spark they needed when he returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter that put the Chiefs up 17-7.

“I know they’ll battle,” said first-year head coach Andy Reid. “That’s what I know. There are a lot of things I don’t know but I do know this: We’re a tough bunch.”

Operating behind an offensive line that was missing two starters, Eli Manning completed 18 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown.  He was intercepted once and sacked three times in the loss.

“It is disappointing,” said Manning. “The defense got us some turnovers and we weren’t able to do anything with it. We are just not playing very well offensively.”

The Giants fell to 0-4 for the first time since 1987.
