Eric Cantor: Syria Vote to Come Within Two Weeks

Photo By Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call(WASHINGTON) — House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told lawmakers Friday they should expect to vote on authorization of military action in Syria “in the next two weeks.”
In a memo to members of the House of Representatives, Cantor wrote they should expect a “robust debate and vote.”
“Understanding that there are differing opinions on both sides of the aisle, it is up to President Obama to make the case to Congress and to the American people that this is the right course of action,” he said.
Cantor voiced support for Obama’s plan for a “limited” strike on Syria earlier in the week, along with House Speaker John Boehner.
Boehner and Cantor previously announced the vote would take place the week of Sept. 9 when Congress reconvenes from summer recess.
An aide to Cantor said the House will vote after the Senate.
Lawmakers remain divided on Obama’s plan, though the Senate’s foreign relations committee approved a resolution Wednesday authorizing military force in retaliation for the Syrian’s government’s alleged use of chemical weapons.
