Amendola, who’s been dealing with the groin problem since the preseason, actually had to come out of the Pats’ win over the Bills Sunday in the first half because of the injury. Amendola did return in the third quarter and ended the game with 10 catches for 104 yards.

The loss of Amendola could be crucial for a Patriots team that doesn’t have many experienced pass catchers.

The Patriots are already playing without tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) and running back Shane Vereen (wrist).

This leaves New England with fifth-year receiver Julian Edelman, who did have seven catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1, and rookies Josh Boyce, Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson to try and pick up the slack.

Despite this, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is confident.

“We’ve got a lot of good players in the locker room, so when people are injured, that’s why you have a deep roster, guys that are — you have confidence in, you’ve gained trust in, and I certainly have that at the skill positions,” Brady said.

“We have a lot of good running backs, we have a lot of good receivers; we’re trying to do the best we can this week to go out and win a very challenging game against a very good team.”
