Collins has been with the team since the 2011 season. Even though he’s never won more than 77 games in a season with the team, there is reason for hope.

Players like Matt Harvery, Zach Wheeler, Bobby Parnell, and others make up a promising young nucleus for the team going forward.

Collins has an endorsement from team captain, David Wright.

“It’s well documented that there’s been probably a lot more talent on teams that are in our division,” he said. “And I think he’s done a nice job keeping the young players motivated. And just, all in all I think he deserves to be back. And then hopefully — with the money we have to spend and some trade opportunities — we’re a better team for him to manage.”

Entering Saturday, Collins has a 224-260 record as manager of the Mets.
