Florida Loses Driskel For Season, Tops Tennessee 31-17
(GAINESVILLE, FL) — The Florida Gators opened up conference play in the SEC by knocking off Tennessee 31-17 on Saturday, but they suffered a huge loss in the process.
Starting quarterback Jeff Driskel will need surgery after breaking his right leg in the first quarter and will miss the remainder of the season.
“Jeff Driskel is as tough a kid as I’ve been around so when he looked at the sideline and waved, I knew it was bad,” head coach Will Muschamp said after the game.
Junior Tyler Murphy took over for Driskel and threw for 134 yards and one touchdown, including a 52-yarder to Solomon Patton.
The 19th-ranked Gators (2-1) topped the Volunteers for the ninth-straight time in the series between the two teams.
