Gabrielle Giffords Joins Instagram

Joshua Lott/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Gabrielle Giffords is now on Instagram. The former Arizona congresswoman posted her first image on Thursday.
The picture shows Giffords sitting in a chair smiling, holding a sign that reads “Hello Instagram!”
Recently, Giffords has been working with her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, pushing for expanded background checks for firearms purchases.
Giffords, 43, resigned from Congress in January 2012 after being shot in the head in her congressional district in Tucson, Ariz., in early 2011. The shooting, carried out by Jared Lee Loughner, left six dead and 12 others wounded.
