The officer was driving on Highway 35 in Manning, a town in northern Alberta, around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when he saw the sky above him light up.

The Mountie’s cruiser’s dash camera captured the fleeting image, giving a six-second video proof of the spectacle in the sky.

A local astronomer at the Telus World of Science in nearby Edmonton confirmed the fireball was caused by a meteor streaking through the sky, according to The Canadian Press.

“This one was definitely substantial in size and created a nice light show for anyone out and about on Saturday night,” astronomer Frank Florian told CTV Edmonton.
