As part of a documentary with MTV, the “We Can’t Stop” singer, 20, addressed the criticism she’s gotten over her performance with Robin Thicke, 36, for his song “Blurred Lines,” which included intimate pelvic thrusts between the two.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative,” she told MTV. “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?…Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it.”

Cyrus said she accomplished exactly what she and Thicke set out to do — shock and awe the audience.

“Me and Robin, the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now,’” she explained.

If the media circus surrounding the performance and its domination of Twitter that night is making history, Cyrus couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

“People are still talking about it,” she said. ”They’re over-thinking it. You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it.”
