Often described as sickly and frail, the 85-year-old Mubarak looked remarkably fit during a court appearance in Cairo Saturday even as he remains in a wheelchair.

Although he faces charges of complicity in the deaths of hundreds of demonstrators more than 30 months ago, Mubarak was ordered released from prison in August and is currently under house arrest.

Mubarak and seven others charged with the killing of 850 people contend that the real culprits are members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the group that spurred the rise of Mubarak’s successor, Mohamed Morsi.

A year after he was elected president, Morsi was deposed last July by Egypt’s powerful military, which many believe is still allied with Mubarak.

Following Saturday’s proceedings, the court adjourned the trial to Oct. 19.  Mubarak was previously convicted for the crime he’s currently accused of but the verdict was thrown out on appeal.
