Nadal Tops Djokovic for Second US Open Title
Published at(NEW YORK) — The two-seed Rafael Nadal defeated top-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to win the US Open Monday.
The victory is Nadal’s second at Flushing Meadows and 13th Grand Slam title overall.
“This is probably the most emotional win in my career,” Nadal said. “I felt I did everything right to have my chance.”
Nadal improves to 22-15 in head-to-head matches with Djokovic. This was also the third time in four years that the two met in the US Open final. Nadal won in 2010 while Djokovic won in 2011.
The 27-year-old Nadal now becomes the first man to have won a Grand Slam title in nine consecutive seasons. The Spaniard’s 13 grand slam titles ranks only behind Roger Federer (17) and Pete Sampras (14) for the most all-time.
