The Baltimore Orioles are now five games behind Cleveland with six games to play for the final wild card spot in the American League, after losing Monday to the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4.

Making matters worse, the O’s lost All-Star third baseman Manny Machado to a leg injury in the seventh inning. Machado injured the leg after stepping awkwardly on first base while running out an infield single. The 21-year-old was taken off the field on a stretcher.

“I’m sure we won’t get a full diagnosis until we get an MRI back in Baltimore (on Tuesday),” Orioles skipper Buck Showalter said.

Pinch-hitter James Loney hit a walk-off home run in the ninth to win the game, and give the Rays a one game lead over Cleveland for the top AL wild card spot.

The Orioles Chris Davis hit his major league-leading 52nd home run in the loss.
