With no winners in last Saturday’s Powerball drawing, the jackpot is now worth $400 million, which is the equivalent of around a $224 million payoff if you want the cash immediately.

The next drawing is Wednesday and the likelihood is very good that the jackpot will swell as the excitement level grows.  Powerball is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Just last month, there were three winning tickets for the $448 Powerball jackpot and back in May, 84-year-old Gloria C. MacKenzie of Zephyr Hills, Fla., was the sole winner of the record $590.5 million Powerball jackpot.

Last March, New Jersey bodega owner Pedro Quezada had the only winning ticket in a $338 million Powerball jackpot drawing but had to clear up some child support issues before he was allowed to cash his check.
